PROVENANCE OF GH FRITH RUGS

As one of the UK's biggest importer of rugs and carpets, GH Frith is keen to ensure that the products we sell have been produced to the highest standards and without exploitation.

GH Frith imports its products directly from the manufacturer and several times a year we visit manufacturers and weaving areas. In order to supply GH Frith we insist that manufacturers conform to strict ethical policies which include the criteria than no child or slave labour is used in the production of rugs and carpets. We also make unannounced and random visits to carpet looms and weaving areas on a regular basis to ensure that our policies are enforced.

GH Frith fully supports and endorses RugMark (the international non-profit organization devoted to ending child labour in the handmade carpet industry in South Asia). We believe this is an excellent system for smaller importers and wholesalers; however it is our experience that on some occasions the RugMark label has been used by suppliers who do not in fact have RugMark status.

Therefore as a company with major purchasing power we feel much more confident in setting out and adhering to our own stringent polices which we can police and enforce. We need to be confident in the provenance of GH Frith rugs, and so we insist on our own labels which meet our own exacting standards.

IN THE COMMUNITY

GH Frith has helped establish a school in the main weaving area of Bhadohi in Utta Pradesh, North East India and continues to contribute to the running of this school and its continued expansion.

Note: The majority of Persian rugs are over 25 years old and as such we are not able to determine their provenance.
